CALGARY (CP) - A man caught trying to flee to England was sentenced Tuesday to 2 1/2 years in prison for a hit-and-run crash that killed a young woman and devastated her family.
Justice Allen Sulatycky also banned Colin Jones, 50, from driving for five years. He was convicted last month in the death of Lindsay Giacomelli, a 20-year-old university student, who was struck at a marked Calgary intersection on March 17, 2005.
The Crown was asking for a term of 3 1/2 years in a federal prison and a 10-year driving ban..."There has been very little sign of remorse. There doesn't seem to be any degree of awareness to the harm he caused the Giacomelli family."
